Watching your baby grow and hit new milestones is exciting. But sometimes, you might wonder if your little one is falling behind. It’s natural to worry, especially with so much information online. Knowing when to be concerned can help you get the right support early.
Here are some signs to watch for that may mean it’s time to check in with a physical therapist:
1. Your Baby Misses Key Motor Milestones
Every baby develops at their own pace, but there are general ages when most babies can do certain things. For example, by about 4 months, babies usually can hold their head up during tummy time. By 7 months, many are sitting without support. If your baby is not reaching these milestones within a few weeks of the expected age, it might be worth getting an evaluation.
2. Your Baby Seems Very Stiff or Very Floppy
Muscle tone matters. If your baby’s body feels unusually stiff, tight, or floppy and floppy, it could affect movement and development.
3. Your Baby Shows Little Interest in Moving or Exploring
Babies naturally want to move, reach, and explore their environment. If your baby seems uninterested in moving their arms or legs, or does not respond to toys or sounds as expected, this could be a sign of a delay.
